About Jack KangZhe Cheng

Jack on Hanukah

Jack KangZhe Cheng is the eldest child of Rabbi Minster and Chung-Mau Cheng.

In English and Hebrew, he is named after his maternal great-grandfather. It's hard to fully describe Jack Margolis. He was extremely devoted to his family, a gifted singer, and a great butcher.

郑康哲

In Chinese, his name was chosen following the tradition of beginning a child's name with a particular syllable based on the order of his generation in his family's life. (Thus, if Chung and C.J. are blessed with more children, their Chinese names will also begin with "Kang".) There are several interpretations of his name and our preferred meaning is peaceful and wise. There are two ways to pronounce his Chinese name - KangZhe in Mandarin and HongJeet in Cantonese. The Cantonese pronunciation includes a syllable that is about as close to "Jack" as you can get in that language.

His father developed an acronym based on his first name:

Jewish
American
Chinese
Kid
